Star Trek Is Celebrating 60 Years With Movies, Memories, and a Whole Lot of Vulcan Salutes

Sixty years of Star Trek calls for a celebration worthy of the final frontier. Apparently, the most logical way to mark the occasion is to get as many fans as possible together and have them raise their hands in the iconic Vulcan Salute.
The iconic franchise officially turns 60 on September 8, exactly six decades after Star Trek: The Original Series premiered in 1966. To celebrate the milestone, Paramount is bringing fans around the world a lineup of special events, screenings, collectibles, game-show takeovers, and one very ambitious Guinness World Record attempt.
Fans Are Going for a Vulcan Salute World Record

The big hand-gesture moment is happening at London’s Science Museum, where fans will gather during the museum's Star Trek Lates after-hours event to attempt the Guinness World Record for the most people performing the Vulcan Salute.
The after-hours celebration will also give fans a chance to explore the museum's Star Trek Warp Trail and get up close with costumes and props from the beloved franchise. If you can't make it to London? No need to call Scotty just yet. Fans around the world will also be able to participate online and add their own Vulcan Salutes to the celebration.
So, consider this your official reminder to practice your 🖖.
Star Trek Is Returning to the Big Screen

The Vulcan Salute won't be the only way to celebrate.
Across the U.S., 750 theaters will screen classic Star Trek movies in 4K from September 4 through September 8. Better yet, each film will be paired with a carefully selected episode of The Original Series, making this one seriously tempting excuse to revisit some of the franchise's greatest adventures.
The five-day lineup includes:
Friday, September 4:Star Trek: The Motion Picture – The Director's Edition paired with “The Changeling”
Saturday, September 5:Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan – The Director's Cut paired with “Space Seed,” the original episode that introduced Khan
Sunday, September 6: Star Trek III: The Search for Spock paired with “Amok Time”
Monday, September 7: Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home paired with “The City on the Edge of Forever”
And then comes the big one.
Tuesday, September 8: Fans can catch a Star Trek Day marathon featuring all four movie-and-episode pairings.

There will be U.S.S. Enterprise collectible popcorn buckets and collectibles available at the U.S. screenings. Because, obviously, popcorn tastes better when you're eating it out of a starship. Click here to see if the anniversary screenings are coming to a theater near you.
Game Shows Are Getting the Star Trek Treatment

CBS is also joining the 60th anniversary festivities with special Star Trek-themed episodes of Let's Make a Deal and The Price Is Right, airing September 8 and streaming on Paramount+. And there are some very familiar faces stopping by.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds stars Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck will make appearances, with Peck's appearance feeling particularly logical considering he's currently playing one of the most iconic Vulcans in pop culture: Spock.
Sixty years after the U.S.S. Enterprise first appeared on television, Star Trek is still bringing generations of fans together. Between the theatrical screenings, classic Original Series episodes, game-show cameos, collectibles, Strange New Worlds, and a Guinness World Record attempt involving potentially a whole lot of Vulcan Salutes, there are plenty of ways for Trekkies to celebrate on September 8th.
