Save Lives and Celebrate Fandom at San Diego Comic-Con’s Legendary Blood Drive

For more than 50 years, fans have gathered in Southern California to celebrate their love of fandom and superheroes at San Diego Comic-Con. Once again this year, they can channel that heroic spirit into something that makes a real difference. TheRobert A. Heinlein Blood Drive is returning to the convention, giving attendees the opportunity to help save lives while enjoying one of the convention's most meaningful traditions.

The annual blood drive has transformed fandom into action. Since 1977, attendees, exhibitors, professionals, volunteers, and staff have donated an impressive 108,420 pints of blood. According to the San Diego Blood Bank, those donations have helped impact more than 300,000 lives over the years.

Now celebrating its 50th anniversary, the Robert A. Heinlein Blood Drive is once again inviting SDCC attendees to roll up their sleeves and make a difference. Of course, a little superhero-inspired motivation never hurts. Fans who donate blood during the drive will receive a free Marvel Spider-Man T-shirt (while supplies last). Donors can also score Eisner Award-nominated comics, exclusive giveaways, and even have a chance to win special prizes donated by exhibitors and Comic-Con staff.

The blood drive will be accepting donations throughout Comic-Con from July 22 through July 26 at the Manchester Grand Hyatt (1 Market Place, San Diego, CA — Grand Hall A - 1st Floor). Fans don't necessarily have to donate during the convention itself to participate, either. Eligible donations made before SDCC and up to 36 days after the show can still qualify donors for select exclusives and giveaways.

While Comic-Con is known for celebrity panels, exclusive merchandise, and unforgettable fandom moments, the Robert A. Heinlein Blood Drive remains one of the convention's most inspiring traditions. It's a reminder that sometimes the most powerful thing a fan can do isn't collect a limited-edition exclusive—it's help save a life.
