If your ideal Valentine’s Day includes big hair, thrifted couture, and a soundtrack that still lives rent-free in your head — you’re in luck. Paramount Pictures and Fathom Entertainment are bringing Pretty in Pink back to theaters for a special 40th anniversary re-release, giving fans the chance to experience one of the most beloved romantic comedies of the ’80s on the big screen once again and our inner ’80s teen is already squealing.

Running nationwide from February 13 through February 16, the limited theatrical event will also include a bonus featurette with director Howard Deutch, offering fresh behind-the-scenes insight into a film that defined a generation. The movie has also been newly remastered from a 4K film transfer supervised by Deutch himself — because Andie’s iconic pink prom dress deserves to shine in high definition.

Originally released in 1986, Pretty in Pink didn’t just define a generation — it practically wrote the rulebook for teen rom-coms. Written by John Hughes, the film sits proudly alongside The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and Sixteen Candles in the ’80s hall of fame. Molly Ringwald’s Andie — equal parts vulnerable, creative, and fiercely individual — became an instant style and spirit icon, while Andrew McCarthy’s Blane embodied the complicated allure of the ’80s, floppy-haired heartthrob.

And then there’s Duckie, Andie’s love-struck best friend. Jon Cryer’s hopeless romantic still owns our hearts — and probably the title of “Most Dramatic Record Store Dance Scene in Cinema History”. Add Annie Potts’ effortlessly cool Iona, Harry Dean Stanton’s tender dad energy, and James Spader’s perfectly punchable Steff, and you’ve got a cast that remains endlessly rewatchable.

But let’s talk fashion — because Pretty in Pink walked so today’s thrift-flip TikToks could run. Andie’s DIY prom dress — born from thrifted fabrics and fearless creativity — became a symbol of self-expression long before upcycled fashion was trending. Her layered looks, pink palettes, and mix-and-match styling still inspire modern fashion editors and designers today. Forty years later, her style still feels fresh, inspiring designers, stylists, and anyone who’s ever cut up a dress with a vision and a prayer.

“For Generation X, Pretty in Pink captured the imaginations and hearts of moviegoers, and that legacy lives on today,” said Fathom Entertainment CEO Ray Nutt. “Fathom is thrilled to return the movie to the big screen, newly remastered from a 4K film transfer supervised by Howard Deutch.”

So whether you’re planning a Galentine’s outing, a nostalgic date night, or simply treating yourself to cinematic comfort food, this re-release offers the perfect excuse to fall in love with Pretty in Pink all over again.

Tickets are on sale now through Fathom Entertainment and participating theater box offices. And yes — wearing pink is highly encouraged. Keep going for the official trailer!
