Dust off your crystal balls and tease up your most dramatic ‘80s hair: Labyrinth is heading back to theaters for its 40th anniversary, and the nostalgia is hitting harder than Jareth’s glittery smolder.
Fathom Entertainment is giving Jim Henson’s cult-favorite fantasy musical a full 4K glow-up, bringing David Bowie, Jennifer Connelly, and an entire kingdom of unforgettable puppets back to the big screen from Jan. 8 to Jan. 11 across North America. Whether you grew up watching it on VHS or discovered it during a late-night streaming spiral, this is the chance to experience the film’s surreal magic as it was always meant to be seen: larger than life and dripping in sparkle.
The re-release comes with an added treat — a special featurette showcasing footage from the “Labyrinth Experience & Masked Ball,” a U.K. cosplay event held in October that proves fans are just as committed (and fabulously dressed) as ever.

“The magical combination of Jim Henson, George Lucas, David Bowie, Jennifer Connelly and hundreds of extraordinary creatures and puppets … made ‘Labyrinth’ a landmark fantasy classic,” said Fathom CEO Ray Nutt, calling the reissue a way to give audiences “a brilliant night at the movies for all ages.” Honestly? He’s not wrong.
Originally released in 1986 as Jim Henson’s final directed feature, Labyrinth followed Sarah (Connelly), a teenage heroine navigating a goblin-filled maze to rescue her baby brother from Bowie’s iconic Goblin King — a role that lives rent-free in pop culture history. Although the movie wasn’t a major box-office hit at the time, grossing $34 million worldwide on a $25 million budget, it has since transformed into a beloved classic, treasured by fantasy fans, Henson devotees, and anyone who’s ever wanted to live in a glam-rock fever dream.
Head over to the Fathom Events website for more information. Tickets for the 40th anniversary screenings are officially on sale now through participating theaters. Time to answer the call of the Goblin King… again.
