THE MATRIX Is Heading Back To Theaters For 25th Anniversary Screenings

If you remember seeing The Matrix in theaters (like I do) it’s hard to believe the groundbreaking film is celebrating it’s 25th anniversary this year. Fathom Events is teaming up with Warner Bros. and Insignis Pictures to celebrate the milestone anniversary with special screenings at select theaters nationwide on September 19th and September 22nd.
The Matrix was a massive blockbuster when it was released, eventually earning over $467 million worldwide to become Warner Bros.' highest-grossing film of the year. The movie featured groundbreaking special effects, winning four Academy Awards including Best Visual Effects, Best Film Editing, Best Sound, and Best Sound Editing. The movie also launched a massive franchise with two sequels in 2003 and a legacy sequel in 2021.

The Matrix was released on March 31, 1999. Written and directed by the relatively unknown, Wachoskis, the film stars Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Laurence Fishburne, Hugo Weaving, and Joe Pantoliano. If you aren’t familiar with the film, it tells the story of a computer programmer who uncovers the truth about the matrix, learning he's been part of a simulated reality created by advanced machines. The film popularized the “bullet time” in filmmaking with its slow-motion sequences in action scenes.
