‘Tis the season for the annual debate about whether Die Hard qualifies as a Christmas movie, or if it’s just a movie set on Christmas. Wherever you stand in this debate, the 1988 action classic is back in select theaters nationwide, just in time for the holidays.

Looks like fans of the Bruce Willis classic were excited to catch the film on the big screen again. The movie took in almost $1,000,000 over the weekend on limited screens, out-performing several recent releases in the process.

Originally released back in 1988, Bruce Willis’ John McClane became an instant icon of 80’s action movies, with his bloodied vest and sarcastic attitude towards being caught up in a high-rise full of terrorists. Despite having a lowly $28 million budget, the film grossed $140 million on its release, securing a place as one of the highest grossing movies of the year.

The film also starred Alan Rickman, Alexander Godunov, Bonnie Bedelia, and Reginald Vel Johnson. Based on Roderick Thorp's novel “Nothing Lasts Forever”, the film was written by Jeb Stuart and Steven E. de Souza. John McTiernan directed.

Advance tickets for Die Hard's return to theaters can be picked up at AMC's website. To check out the classic film at home, it's currently streaming for free on Tubi, and it's also available to watch on Hulu.
