White Shoes...But Make It Fashion!

It seems like white shoes have been having a “moment” since 2017. They’re one of the many 80’s fashion trends we’ve been seeing all over the runways and the streets the last few years, and the look is still going strong. Whether it’s pumps, ankle boots, sandals, or sneakers — white shoes can add instant pizazz to any outfit.

After living through the 80’s and 90’s fashion trends the first time around I’ll be honest — I’ve cringed at a few of the things I’ve seen making a come-back the last few years (I’m looking at YOU, big-collared shirts). But I’m a long-time fan of the white shoe and it’s hard to remember a time they haven’t been part of my wardrobe, so I’ve enjoyed seeing the fashion world embrace them again.

For me, it’s one of those trends you can wear almost every day. (Have I mentioned I’m a long-time fan of the white shoe?!!) Whether you’re wearing flats, sneakers, sandals, booties, or pumps, they can provide a nice contrast to colorful outfits and accessories and instant chic to a classic look. Dress up a simple pair of jeans with a blazer and a graphic tee with some classic white pumps. Pair a simple sundress or mini-dress with some squeaky-clean white lace up casual kicks. Wear your favorite fall outfit with a pair of white booties and instant chic! I could go on and on… SO many styling possibilities!

I wear a lot of black, and when I’m looking to add a little extra but keep it simple at the same time I throw on a pair of white shoes. I’ve been wearing a trusty pair of white K-Swiss sneakers non-stop while we’ve all been sheltering in place the past several months, but when we were all going out more freely a white pair of pumps were often one of my “go-to’s”. You can find white pumps almost everywhere these days, but I’m a big fan of Banana Republic’s Madison 12-Hour Pump. They’re definitely heels, but surprisingly comfortable with their flexible leather uppers and padded insoles. I like them so much I own them in several colors, and with BR offering so many sales these days you can usually get them for well-below their regular retail price including right now! I also love these, these , these , and these !.

These heels are professional enough for the office and comforatble enough you can wear them for several hours and won’t be limping around by the end of the day. These pictures were taken before COVID which is why I’m not in a mask, and I paired them with some high-waisted, wide-leg, pull on pants from Reformation. I got them last season so the version I’m wearing isn’t available anymore, but you can find a similar pair here. I added some Star Wars flair (because I like to do that) with a business time shirt from Black Milk Clothing, and finished the look off with some vintage and contemporary pieces and a fave clutch from Sent From Mars.
