Tartan Pants...But Make It Fashion!

Plaid 2.png

Like it or not, plaid is back in a big way. It seems like I’ve been seeing checkered prints everywhere — from Cher Horowitz-inspired plaids, to classic suits, to street style mash-ups with clashing prints and textures. I’ve always been partial to plaid myself, and probably have a few too many plaid flannel shirts in my closet at all times. What can I say — I’m a 90’s girl that way. But if you didn’t experience the grunge years first-hand, investing in a pair of pants in an eye-catching checked pattern is a great way to update your wardrobe for the season.

I see a lot of girls are going crazy over tartan trousers and I love it! The dual-color print can add an edgy rock and roll vibe to any outfit. They look pretty chic with a pair of your favorite ankle boots, a simple white tee and a black leather jacket. They look sleek with a simple black turtleneck and flats. Or if you want a more formal look, pair them with a classic button-down shirt, slim fit blazer, and pumps.

Basically, tartan goes with almost everything. SO many styling possibilities….

Black Milk Clothing has been one of my go-to’s for tartan pants the last few years. If you’re a long-time fan of the Australian label you know tartan prints have become kind of a signature for the brand. The website boasts they’ve “created the world’s most comfortable pants” and they aren’t lying. Their cuffed tartan pants have a relaxed fit, cuffed legs, a high waist silhouette, pockets, and are fleece-lined.

I was skeptical about these until I bought my first pair. I’ve been hooked ever since and have them in several different colors and prints but I am definitely partial to their tartans. I love wearing them when I have a long day because they are so comfortable. They are professional enough looking for the office, and you can easily transition from a day to evening look with accessories and shoes.

Looks like the black and white pair I’m wearing is currently sold out, but I also love this, this, this, and this!

I think these pants run pretty true to size. They are stretchy, but don’t lose their shape. I’m 5’11 so they could be a little longer for me (story of my life), but they are crops and the cuff isn’t sewn so you can fold them or wear them without the cuff.

I love this time of year, and since it doesn’t really feel like fall (yet) here in SoCal I decided to add some seasonal flair to my tartans with a retro-style sweater, shades, and bag from Unique Vintage. Looks like the bag is all on sale now too so if you like it now’s a good time to pick it up.
